By way of background, opening thoughts: Mendocino
is an appellation in northern California that is producing some
noteworthy classical varietals. Today we will be sampling certified
organic wines from the Girasole Vineyards in Mendocino. Review samples
were provided by the winery's agent. Original tasting and review : This is Girasole Vineyards Pinot Noir, Mendocino, California, 2010, finished at 13.5% alcohol.
In the glass: Medium red throughout.
On the nose: Poured cool and swirled vigorously, shows light and spicy pinot fruit. From the aroma, seems like this will be simple and enjoyable.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact friendly and round in the mid-palate. Brings a blend of light spices, lightly sweet fruit and easy, friendly balance. Brief, but clean finish.
In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale. Good rating for a value-priced pinot noir. Following long decant, full day kept cool in partially filled bottle: Very light berry nose - think light red cherry. Simple, sound, friendly on the palate.
